David Beckwith has been a fan of music as long as he can remember. His parents would regularly play records and growing up in New York City he would often be seen attending numerous local music venues.
He was always curious about what was going on behind the scenes. How did certain sounds happen on records and live recordings? What gear was used? What settings were used? The answers were out there!
After many years of having music be an integral part of his life, he finally picked up the guitar and began to go down the rabbit hole. David certainly doesn’t claim to be the world’s greatest guitarist by any means. But he does have a unique ability to be able to discern what makes a great instrument. So many factors such as the sound, the feel, the balance, the electronics, the hardware all make each instrument unique. When David first holds a guitar in his hands, he is looking for that feeling like when Harry Potter first picked up his wand. There should be something immediate and magical that just feels right. When that happens and the sound is what it should be, it all comes into focus! David has been lucky enough to play Stratocasters, Telecasters, Les Pauls, 335’s among others from the Golden Era of the 1950’s and acoustics from years prior. He has also played numerous celebrity owned guitars and has a feel for what makes the great ones great.
David was a double major in History and Art History at Lafayette College. In addition to appreciating some of the world’s best vintage and new guitars, David is the owner of Grand Cru Wine Consulting which is an advisory firm for fine & rare wines founded in 2007.
